Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we do offer phone or online sessions (Telehealth) for all clients.

Clients who have a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP are eligible for the standard Medicare rebate per session (10 sessions per calendar year).

Private clients and NDIS clients will be subject to standard fees for telehealth sessions.

WorkCover clients are eligible for telehealth sessions as long as the injured worker and the claim manager agree to these services.

We do not have a specialist Psychologist who provides medico-legal reports for court. However, all Psychologists are able to provide a treatment report for court purposes, to confirm that you have been attending sessions.

Yes, we can see clients under the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme). However, we can only see clients who are self managed or plan managed. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to see clients who are managed specifically by the NDIS.

We can see adults and adolescents aged above 13 for individual sessions.

For young children under 18 months, issues are usually resolved with parents having sessions without the child.

Medicare rebates are available to clients for selected mental health services provided by Psychologists. In order to access this rebate, a GP needs to complete a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) which outlines your issues, goals and the treatment required.

A GP usually requires a longer consultation time to prepare a plan, so make sure you request a long session when you make an appointment to get a plan.

The MHCP must be in place prior to your first session, otherwise you will not be able to claim a rebate from Medicare.

A MHCP enables you to access 10 sessions of Individual treatment and 10 sessions of group treatment per calendar year.

Medicare
A Medicare rebate can be claimed if you possess a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP prior to your first session. The rebate is available for a maximum of 10 sessions, per calendar year and provides a substantial rebate of the session fee back to you. You may receive a rebate of $145.25 if you see a Clinical Psychologist and $98.95 if you see a Registered Psychologist.

Private Health Insurance

Psychological therapy is covered by most major private health funds. To determine whether you are eligible for a rebate you must contact your health insurance provider to discuss your specific level of cover and annual limit.**

**Please be aware that you may not claim Medicare and Private Health Insurance at the same time.

A standard consultation time of 50 – 55 minutes is between $240.00 and $280.00. The initial assessment is $20 extra. Payments can be made by cheque, cash or EFTPOS. All major credit cards are accepted.

A Medicare rebate can be claimed if you possess a Mental Health Care plan from your GP prior to your first session. The rebate will provide a large proportion of the session fee back to you.

You can also claim a rebate for psychological treatment from many private health insurers. To determine whether you are eligible for a rebate you must contact your health insurance provider to discuss your specific level of cover.**

**Please be aware that you may not claim a rebate from Medicare and Private Health Insurance for the same session.

You do not need a referral from a doctor to see a Psychologist. However, you will be unable to claim a rebate from Medicare if you don’t have a referral and a Mental Health Care Plan. In this case you will be required to pay the full fee.

If you have private health insurance that covers Psychology, you may be entitled to receive a rebate from your private health insurer.

However, if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate then you must see a GP prior to the first appointment and have a Mental Health Care Plan in place.

We know life happens and sometimes you need to cancel or reschedule. We have a cancellation policy for all appointments that requires 48 business hours notice in order to avoid a penalty. We strictly adhere to this out of respect to our psychologists and clients. If you are unable to attend your appointment, providing advanced notice allows us to offer your time slot to another client on the psychologist’s waiting list. This enables us to deliver a fair and consistent quality of service to everyone.

Cancellation Policy for Initial Appointments:
If you cannot attend your scheduled initial appointment for any reason, please provide at least 48 business hours notice. If your initial appointment is cancelled with less than the 48 business hours notice or you do not attend your appointment on the day, you will be required to pay a deposit of 50% of the session fee, if you wish to book any further appointments or to attend the next pre scheduled appointment. This deposit will be deducted from the initial session fee but is not refundable if you do not attend for your appointment or cancel within 48 business hours.

To avoid a cancellation fee, please let our admin team know at least two business days (48 business hours) before your appointment day. Calling 9651 1877, leaving a voicemail, or emailing our admin team (admin@duralpsychology.com.au) with your appointment details and request to cancel is the most effective way to ensure we receive your cancellation notice. When you reply “NO” to the SMS reminder message sent within 24 hours to cancel, that would already mean that your opportunity to reschedule or cancel without penalty has already expired. If your appointment is on a Monday, you will be required to cancel on the Thursday prior to your appointment. If your appointment is on a Tuesday, you will be required to cancel on the Friday prior to your appointment.

**Please note the SMS reminder service is a courtesy tool only, we recommend writing down your appointments as not receiving the sms reminder will not void a cancellation fee.

Cancellation fees are charged as per below:

  • Appointment is cancelled with less than 48 business hours notice before your appointment = 50% of the session fee
  • Appointment is cancelled with less than 24 business hours notice before your appointment = 100% of the session fee
  • If you do not arrive for your scheduled appointment = 100% of the session fee
